It is surprising how many people cannot use this super simple equation.

I’ve mentioned before that certain niches can have more ‘click-happy’ visitors than others. Finding those niches is one consideration you should make when choosing a niche. Usually though, the only way to tell is by driving traffic to your Adsense pages and watch your CTR.

I always do the following things when designing my ads for higher CTR.

1. Make background of the ad same as background of the site.
2. Remove border from ads.
3. Use large rectangle ad layout.
4. Make the title of the Ad blue.
5. Place ads ‘above the fold’.

One mistake I see many newbies do is not place any outgoing links on the page with the Adsense ads. This is against Google’s TOS. You have to have at least one outgoing link on the page with your ads. Always check Google’s TOS and ultimately contact Google if you’re in doubt about a technique of generating higher CTR.

None of the techniques I use are against Google’s TOS. In fact, they help improve the relevancy of your landing page, which is a very important factor according to Google.

If you are a member of the DigitalPoint Forums you have probably noticed how the background color of the header Adsense banner changes with each page view (when not a SiteMatch image ad). This done to reduce banner blindness.

AdsenseJuggler is a new webmaster tool which alternates Adsense Colors for you.

You input all your regular Adsense information and choose what portion of the views you would like to have your colors changed. You then change your Google Adsense code to the code they provide for you.

Now your visitors will sometimes see a random predetermined color scheme, which in theory, should grab their attention and get them to click on the ads.

The website admits that this tool might not be for every website, mainly because the random colors might not flow with your website’s design. But I guess the whole point of this tool is that it makes the banners NOT flow with your website so viewers actually pay attention to them. It really probably depends on the the type of website you are using the code on but I could see it working well on forums.

I learned some crucial strategies from his post. He proves with his own stats which color and format works the best for CTR. But the real nugget I got from his post was how he integrates his Adsense units. There’s a screenshot of his niche site that you don’t want to miss.
Some of my templates do generate more than 20% CTR consistently, but I’m going to try to model his template for my new sites. I really like how he integrated an Adsense unit in his header graphics. (You will see what I mean when you get there).
